REMEMBRANCE SUNDAY

We remember that the people who died in war made it possible for us to live in peace and that God will bring peace on earth…

Words from Psalm 46 verses 9 and 10…
It is God who makes wars to cease to the ends of the earth.
He breaks the bow and shatters the spear.
He burns the chariots with fire.
Be still and know that I am God.

And Jesus’ words in Matthew 5 v 9:
Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called the sons of God.

From Micah 4: 1- 4 we know that one day God will put an end to all wars…

God will settle disputes among the nations, among the great powers near and far. They will hammer their swords into ploughs and their spears into pruning knives. Nations will never again go to war, never prepare for battle again. Everyone will live in peace among his own vineyards and fig trees, and no one will make him afraid. The Lord Almighty has promised this.

Prayer: Giving thanks to God that He knows and loves each one of us and wants to bring peace to the world through Jesus Christ.

Hymn 225:

He’s got the whole wide world in His hands (x3)

He’s got the whole world in His hands

He’s got everybody here in His hands (x3)

He’s got the whole world in His hands

He’s got the tiny little baby in His hands (x3)

He’s got the whole world in His hands

He’s got you and me, brother, in His hands (x3)

He’s got the whole world in His hands

He’s got the whole world in His hands!

A POPPY IS MADE OF 4 PARTS:

  1. The stem
  2. The red petals
  3. A green leaf
  4. The black centre

The stem takes food and water from the soil to make the flower grow

The red petals are to attract the insects to pollinate the flower

The green leaf is to absorb sunlight to help the plant grow strong

The black centre looks dead but it is where the seeds grow to produce new plants

When the plant dies, the stem withers; the petals fall; the green leaf fades away… but the seeds remain and produce new plants

And the Bible tells us that death is not the end but the beginning of a new sort of life with God in heaven

And Jesus made it all possible when he died on a cross outside the walls of Jerusalem just over 2000 years ago…

There is a green hill far away outside a city wall

Where the dear Lord was crucified, who died to save us all

We may not know, we cannot tell what pains he had to bear

But we believe it was for us he hung and suffered there

He died that we might be forgiven; he died to make us good

That we might go at last to heaven, saved by his precious blood

There was no other good enough to pay the price of sin

He, only, could unlock the gate of heaven and let us in

O dearly, dearly has he loved and we must love him, too

And trust in his redeeming blood and try his works to do.

THOUGHTS FOR CHILDREN

How good are you at remembering things? Four children needed

“My name is *** and my favourite TV programme is ***”

“His/her name is *** and his/her favourite TV programme is ***. My name is ***” etc.

It’s not always easy to remember things

STORY of the old school clock and the child who remembered to wind it each day after other, more capable children, forgot

TODAY WE REMEMBER THE MEN AND WOMEN WHO DIED IN WAR… we never want to forget them

  • There are some other things we must remember… and some things we must try to forgive and forget

Let’s remember

  1. To thank God and your parents and teachers and friends
  2. To say sorry when you’ve done something wrong (it takes real courage)
  3. To look for ways to help others

Let’s try to forgive and forget

  1. Anyone who has done nasty things to us
  2. Anyone who has said nasty things to us
  3. Anyone who has let us down

The Bible said that God remembers the good things we do… but does NOT want to remember the horrible things we do (“sin”)

  • In fact, God says that He has taken away all those sins as far away as the East is from the West
  • And it’s all because Jesus died on the Cross at Calvary for each one of us… so don’t forget to say a big thank you to Him

God forgave my sin in Jesus’ name

I’ve been born again in Jesus’ name

And in Jesus’ name I come to you

To share his love, as he told me to. He said…

Freely, freely, you have believed

Freely, freely give

Go in my name and because you believe

Others will know that I live

All power is given in Jesus’ name

In earth and heaven in Jesus’ name

And in Jesus’ name I come to you

To share his power, as he told me to. He said…

Freely, freely, you have believed

Freely, freely give

Go in my name and because you believe

Others will know that I live
